Minneapolis Garage Door and Gate Service
From alley garages in Longfellow to attached garages in the newer homes near the city’s edges, Minneapolis has every kind of garage door you can imagine. Loyalty Garage Door And Gates repairs, maintains and installs garage doors and driveway gates across the city, and our phone is answered 24 hours a day at (612) 688-3103.
The Minneapolis Garage: Often Detached, Often Off an Alley
Drive through Powderhorn, Northeast, Nokomis or the Lyndales and you will notice a pattern: a house facing the street and a detached garage facing the alley out back. These garages see a particular set of problems. Many are unheated, so the door, springs and opener face the full force of a January night. Some have older single-layer doors that have been patched more than once. And alley access means plow ridges, potholes and icy ruts right at the threshold, which can make it hard for the door to seal and easy for a car to clip a track.
We are comfortable working in tight alley spaces and on the smaller, sometimes non-standard openings found on older Minneapolis garages. If your garage was built long before today’s standard door sizes, we will measure carefully and talk through what is available.

City Winters, City Problems
Frozen to the slab after a thaw
Minneapolis gets plenty of mid-winter warm spells followed by hard refreezes. Meltwater runs under the door, then locks the bottom seal to the concrete overnight. If you press the button and the opener groans, stop. Disconnect the opener with the release cord, free the seal by hand, and call us if it will not come loose or the door feels unusually heavy.
Unheated garages and tired springs
A spring in an unheated detached garage lives through every temperature swing the season delivers. If it is already near the end of its life, a bitter morning is often when it snaps. If you heard a bang and the door will not lift, leave it closed and give us a call.
Salt, slush and rust
City streets and alleys are heavily salted. Slush thrown up by tires settles on the bottom panel, track ends and bottom brackets. We check these areas for corrosion during every visit, because a rusted bottom bracket is under high cable tension and should not be ignored.
Snow on the photo-eyes
Shoveling a narrow alley apron often means snow piled right beside the door, sometimes on top of the safety sensors. If your door refuses to close after a storm, clear and dry the sensor lenses first.
Thinking About an Upgrade?
Plenty of Minneapolis homeowners are turning their garages into workshops, gyms or studios. If you plan to heat the space or spend time out there in winter, an insulated door with good perimeter seals helps hold the warmth. For garages under bedrooms or next to living space, a belt-drive opener cuts down on noise. We can walk you through options that suit an older garage without overcomplicating things.
Driveway and Alley Gates
Some Minneapolis properties have rolling or swing gates across a driveway or rear parking pad. Snow storage in a small yard is a challenge, and gates often end up fighting snowbanks. We repair operators, wheels, hinges, keypads and sensors, and when installing new gates we think about where the snow will actually go.
Neighborhoods We Serve
We work throughout Minneapolis, including Northeast, North Minneapolis, Uptown, Linden Hills, Kingfield, Longfellow, Nokomis, Powderhorn, Southwest and the neighborhoods in between. We also cover nearby suburbs; see the full service area list or neighboring pages for St. Paul, Edina and Bloomington.
Minneapolis FAQ
Can you work on a very old detached garage?
Usually, yes. We will look at the opening, framing and existing hardware and tell you what is practical, whether that is a repair or a replacement door sized to fit.
Do you come out at night?
Our phone is answered 24 hours a day. Call and we will arrange the soonest available visit.
My alley garage door does not seal at the bottom. Why?
Frost heave and settling can make the slab uneven, and a worn bottom seal can no longer make up the difference. A new seal, or an adjustment to the door, often helps.
