New Garage Door Installation in the Twin Cities Metro

A new garage door changes how a house looks from the street and how the garage feels on a January night. Loyalty Garage Door And Gates helps homeowners across the Minneapolis–St. Paul area choose, measure and install doors suited to Minnesota weather. Call (612) 688-3103 to start the conversation.

When Replacement Makes More Sense Than Repair

We are glad to repair a door that has plenty of life left. Replacement is worth considering when:

  • Several sections are dented, cracked or rusting through at the bottom
  • The door is a single-layer panel and the garage is attached, heated or sits under living space
  • Repairs are stacking up and parts are getting harder to find
  • Wood panels are rotting or delaminating from years of snow and meltwater
  • You are updating the home’s exterior and the old door no longer fits the look

Choosing a Door for a Cold Climate

Insulation

Insulated doors use polystyrene or polyurethane cores sandwiched between steel skins. In an attached garage, the door is often the largest uninsulated surface connected to the house, so upgrading it can help the garage stay warmer and can reduce the chill reaching adjoining rooms. Insulated doors also tend to be quieter and stiffer. We can explain how different constructions compare so you can match the door to how you use the garage.

Materials

  • Steel: the most common choice; durable, low maintenance and available in many styles and colors.
  • Wood and wood-look composites: warm, traditional character; real wood needs regular finishing to hold up to moisture.
  • Aluminum and glass: modern appearance; consider insulated glass if the garage is heated.
  • Fiberglass and composite: resist denting and rot, and some mimic wood grain convincingly.

Seals and finishes

A good bottom seal and perimeter weatherstripping block drafts and drifting snow. Factory finishes designed to resist corrosion are helpful near salt-splashed driveways.

Style and windows

Raised panel, flush, carriage-house, and contemporary designs are all available. Windows bring light into the garage; frosted or textured glass offers privacy.

What Happens on Installation Day

  1. Measuring and planning. Before ordering, we measure the opening, headroom, side room and back room, and check the framing.
  2. Removal. We safely release tension from the old springs, take down the old door and haul away the materials.
  3. Framing and seals. We check the jambs and header and install fresh weatherstripping.
  4. New door and hardware. New sections, tracks, rollers, cables and springs sized to the new door’s weight.
  5. Opener connection. We reconnect your existing opener or install a new one, then set travel limits and force.
  6. Testing and walkthrough. We balance the door, test the safety reverse and show you how to use the manual release.

Thinking About Winter Installs

Doors can be installed year-round. In very cold weather, we plan the job to keep your garage open for as little time as practical. If your current door has failed outright in the middle of winter, let us know and we will discuss ways to secure the opening while a new door is on order.

Pair It with a New Opener

If your opener is old or lacks features you want, such as battery backup, a quiet belt drive or app control, installing it alongside the new door saves a second visit. Learn more on our opener page.

After the Install

A new door still benefits from regular care. Our maintenance service keeps springs, rollers and seals in good order, and our repair team is available 24 hours a day if anything comes up.
