Garage Door Repair Across the Twin Cities
A garage door is the largest moving object in most homes, and in Minnesota it works through humid summers, icy shoulder seasons and weeks of sub-zero mornings. When it starts acting up, Loyalty Garage Door And Gates can diagnose the cause and get it running safely again. Call (612) 688-3103 any time, day or night.
Signs Your Door Needs Attention
Doors rarely fail without warning. Most give clues for weeks beforehand. Watch and listen for:
- Grinding, popping or scraping as the door travels
- One side rising faster than the other, leaving a slanted gap at the floor
- A door that stops partway, reverses for no visible reason, or slams the last foot
- Frayed or loose lift cables near the bottom brackets
- Rollers that wobble, have cracked wheels or have popped out of the track
- Daylight or snow blowing in around the edges after the door is closed
- Dented or cracked sections, often from a bumper tap or a snow-blower mishap
If you notice any of these, stop using the door if it seems unsafe and give us a call. Continuing to run a door with a damaged cable or bent track can turn a modest repair into a bigger one.
Repairs We Handle
Cables and drums
Lift cables wind onto drums at each end of the torsion tube. When a cable frays, slips or snaps, the door can hang lopsided or come down hard. We replace cables in pairs, reset them on the drums and confirm even tension on both sides.
Rollers, hinges and brackets
Worn nylon or steel rollers make the door noisy and jerky. Cracked hinges let panels flex. We swap tired parts for fresh ones, which often makes an older door noticeably quieter.
Tracks
Vertical and horizontal tracks get bent by bumps, or pulled out of plumb when mounting bolts loosen over many freeze-thaw cycles. We straighten or replace the track, re-secure it and realign it so the rollers glide.
Off-track doors
A door that has jumped its track is under unpredictable tension. Please keep clear of it and leave the opener off. We secure the door, reseat it, and find out why it left the track in the first place.
Panels and sections
Depending on the door model and parts availability, a single damaged section can sometimes be replaced instead of the whole door. We will look at the damage and explain what is realistic.
Weather seals and bottom rubber
Torn or brittle seals let in cold air, blowing snow and meltwater. A new bottom seal and fresh perimeter stop can make a real difference in an attached garage through the winter.
Cold-Weather Problems We See Every Winter
Minnesota adds its own wrinkles. Here are the issues that come up most once the temperatures drop:
- Frozen bottom seal. Snowmelt pools under the door and freezes overnight. Forcing the opener can tear the rubber or strain the top section. Release the opener, free the seal gently and call us if it stays stuck.
- Stiff, sluggish travel. Old grease thickens in the cold. Cleaning and relubricating with a product suited to low temperatures can help, and we can check whether the force settings on your opener need adjusting.
- Corrosion on the lower panels and brackets. Road salt carried in on vehicles collects near the floor. We look for rust weakening the bottom brackets, which hold the cables under high tension.
- Heaved slab. Frost heave can shift the floor so the door no longer seals evenly. Sometimes an adjustment or a thicker bottom seal is enough to close the gap.
How a Repair Visit Works
- You call. Describe what the door is doing. We will ask a few questions so the technician arrives prepared.
- We inspect. The technician checks the springs, cables, tracks, rollers, opener and safety features, not just the part you noticed.
- You approve. We explain what we found and what we recommend before starting work.
- We repair and test. After the fix, we run the door through several cycles, check balance and confirm the auto-reverse responds correctly.
Related Services
A lot of repair calls turn out to involve a broken spring or an opener problem. If your door is near the end of its useful life, we can also talk through new door installation. To head off trouble before winter, ask about seasonal maintenance.
