Driveway Gate Repair Through Minnesota’s Toughest Seasons

Automated gates have a hard job in the Twin Cities. They swing and slide through snowbanks, ice ridges and plow spray, and their motors and electronics sit outdoors through every kind of weather. When yours stalls, sticks or stops responding, Loyalty Garage Door And Gates can help. We answer (612) 688-3103 24 hours a day.

Gate Problems We Diagnose and Fix

  • Gate will not open or close from the remote, keypad or intercom
  • Gate opens partway, then stops or reverses
  • Motor runs but the gate does not move
  • Grinding, clunking or straining from the operator arm or gear rack
  • Sagging swing gates that drag on the pavement
  • Slide gates that jump the track or wobble on worn wheels
  • Gate closes on its own, or will not stay open
  • Safety sensors or edges causing constant reversals

How Snow and Cold Affect Driveway Gates

Snow buildup in the swing path

A swing gate needs a clear arc to travel. Plowed or shoveled snow piled inside that arc, or a ridge of ice along the driveway, can stop the gate in its tracks. The operator senses resistance and either stops or reverses. Repeatedly running it against a snowbank strains the motor and arm. Clearing a path is the first step, and if the gate still struggles we can check the operator settings.

Frozen slide tracks and wheels

Slide gates depend on a clean track. Packed snow, sand and ice can lift the wheels or lock them in place. Over time, salt and grit wear the wheels and bearings. We can clean, adjust or replace the wheels, guide rollers and track sections.

Cold batteries and solar setups

Backup batteries and solar-powered operators lose capacity in deep cold and short winter days. A gate that works fine at noon but fails at dusk may be running low on stored power. We test batteries and charging systems and recommend replacements when needed.

Buried or iced sensors

Photo-eyes, loop detectors and safety edges can be blocked or confused by snow, ice and slush. We inspect and clean sensors, and reposition them if their current spot gets buried every storm.

Frost heave and shifting posts

Posts set in soil can move as the ground freezes and thaws, throwing hinges and latches out of alignment. We adjust hinges, latches and limits to compensate, and let you know if the post itself needs more substantial attention.

Our Gate Repair Approach

  1. Talk it through. Tell us the gate type, the operator if you know it, and what it is doing.
  2. Inspect everything. We look at the gate leaf, hinges or wheels, the operator, power supply, controls and safety devices.
  3. Explain the fix. You get a clear explanation and recommendation before work begins.
  4. Repair and test. We run the gate through full cycles and confirm that the safety devices stop and reverse it properly.

Gate Types We Service

  • Single and double swing gates
  • Sliding (rolling) gates, including track and cantilever styles
  • Ornamental steel, aluminum and wood gates
  • Arm-style and ram-style swing operators
  • Keypads, intercoms, remotes and vehicle-exit sensors

Winter Tips for Gate Owners

  • Ask your plow service to keep snow out of the gate’s swing arc and away from the track.
  • Keep a broom handy to clear sensors after a storm.
  • If the gate fails while open, use the manual release according to the manufacturer’s instructions rather than forcing it.
  • Schedule an inspection in autumn so worn wheels, weak batteries and loose hinges are caught before the first snowfall.

Need a New Gate Instead?

If the gate or operator is beyond economical repair, see our gate installation page. Homeowners with both a gate and a garage door often schedule maintenance for both at once, and we also handle garage door repair.
